Happiness Commandment 1: Be Kind in Words and Actions

My mom read to me a quote she read somewhere that struck me. It goes something like “In marriage, use kind words to one another.”

This really made me realize that I’ve been very mean lately. I’m very open on how to express my feelings by talking and by saying bad words right away without thinking how it will affect the person that I’m referring to. So, for my first happiness commandment, I will make sure that every word that will come out of my mouth are words of kindness and compassion.

I will try my very best to avoid harsh remarks and sarcastic comments.

Drafting My Happiness Commandments

Happiness is such a broad term to explain. If you ask me, happiness means fulfilling my life long dreams. But happiness has a lot of definition and only you can choose which definition suits you.

I came across The Happiness Project website and it gave me an idea to create my own happiness commandments. I’ve been through a lot lately and I need something to make me think and realize what I need to do correctly.

This is still an on-going blog post because I know I haven’t completed my list yet. So here it is, my happiness commandments…

  1. Be kind in words and actions.
  2. Stay calm.
  3. Think before acting and speaking.
  4. Reminisce on the past but do not relive it again.
  5. Stop over-thinking and  over-planning.
  6. Be healthy.
  7. Always remember that there is karma.
  8. Stop searching about illnesses to complicate things more.
  9. Pray.
  10. Take time to admire the beauty of everything.
  11. Make a decision and stick to it until the end.
  12. Love is and will only be the answer.

I’m not sure if this will be my final list of happiness commandments. I may add more. I may remove some. But as of the moment, this is what I think will define the new me. I will tell others to create their own happiness commandments as well. It will definitely be different from my commandments but I or we can still learn from it.
